Remove garlic skins with a knife

There are several ways to remove the shell. Which one you choose depends mainly on how many tubers you have to peel. If you only need a small amount, proceed as follows:

  • They cut off the top and bottom of a clove of garlic, then use a thin, wide object, such as a knife, to flatten the clove. As soon as you hear a crack, the shell has come loose.
  • Alternatively, grasp both ends of the garlic clove between your thumb and forefinger and press firmly once. Most of the time, the garlic skin will burst open, otherwise, you can go under the loosened skin with a knife.

Variant for many garlic cloves: soften the peels in water

  • If you want to peel several cloves, simply place them in hot water. After just a few minutes, the shells can be removed very easily.
  • Put the garlic in a sealable jar and shake well. Most of the shells will come off by themselves.
  • If you peel garlic very often, it might be worth using a garlic peeler. Such a kitchen tool will cost you around five euros and will definitely make your work easier.
