Polish cucumbers

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 5 kg cucumber(s)
  • 3 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 50 g salt
  • 250 g sugar
  • 5 bay leaves
  • ½ liter vinegar (Sprite vinegar)
  • 5 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp allspice seeds
  • ½ garlic clove(s), lightly crushed, if desired

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Peel the cucumbers and cut into slightly thicker slices. Peel the onions and cut into small quarters. Place both in a large bowl and mix with all the remaining ingredients. Cover and let stand for 3 days, stirring gently occasionally. On the third day, drain the liquid and divide the liquid into prepared jars. Seal the jars and simmer for about 5 minutes (no longer). Alternatively, you can boil the ingredients in a saucepan, then transfer them to a clay pot and refrigerate. This will reduce the shelf life, but the cucumbers will be just as delicious as if they were from a jar (except that after 5-6 days, a whitish layer will form on top of the liquid, which doesn’t affect the flavor).
