Prawn and Coconut Curry (Prawn Malaikari)

The perfect prawn and coconut curry (prawn malaikari) recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 500 g Shrimp or shrimp peeled deveined
  • 450 ml Unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1 Pc. Onion, large, mashed
  • 1 Pc. Indian bay leaf
  • 1 tsp Ginger powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 0,5 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 Teaspoon (level) Garam masala
  • 2 tsp Tomato paste
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Water
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  1. First mix the prawns with about two pinches of salt and the turmeric and fry in oil until they are almost cooked. Put the prawns aside.
  1. Then fry the bay leaves in the same oil.
  1. Add the onions and fry for about two minutes.
  1. All other ingredients, except for the water, stir well and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  1. If the sauce gets too thick, then dilute with the water as desired.
  1. Rice goes very well as a side dish.
