When preserving gooseberries, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to ensure they keep their shape. However, since the berries can be kept for half a year thanks to this processing method, it is worth the effort.
Boil gooseberries: you need that
To make the delicious gooseberries last longer, you can boil them down. For this you need the following ingredients:
- 500 grams of gooseberries
- 500 milliliters of water
- 250 grams of sugar
- 2 jars of 250 milliliters each
How to cook gooseberries: instructions
When you have all the ingredients together, you can start cooking:
- First, wash the gooseberries thoroughly and remove all stems and leaves.
- To avoid bursting the berries, you can prick each berry once with a needle.
- Then place the berries in the jars. Make sure to leave about two centimeters of space around the edge.
- Now boil the water in a saucepan and then add the sugar. Stir the mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Now pour the mixture into the mason jars. Make sure that the gooseberries are completely covered by the liquid. Then close the jars.
- Now place the jars in a large saucepan. Fill it up with water until only about a quarter of the glasses stick out of the water.
- Let the water simmer for about half an hour. After that, you need to remove the jars from the pot and let them cool for a few hours. Then store them in the fridge. In this way, the preserved gooseberries will keep for about half a year.
