Christmas biscuits of a Danube Swabian from Mramorak/Banat, today Serbia
Knead the butter, egg yolk, sour cream, and flour into a smooth dough. Form the dough into small balls and chill for about 1 hour. Beat the egg whites with a mixer, slowly adding the sugar, until firm enough to cut. Then carefully fold in the ground nuts. Roll out the balls thinly to form oval flatbreads. Add about 1 teaspoon of the filling and roll them into croissants. Bake in a preheated oven at about 180°C for about 15-20 minutes on the middle rack until golden yellow. Once cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar. The croissants taste even more delicious when stored in a tin for a few days—a perfect recipe for Christmas baking.
