Spread the love

Ingredients for 9 servings:

  • 1.3 kg roast beef
  • 2 large onions, cut into large pieces
  • 355 ml cola
  • 6 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke (hickory liquid smoke), alternatively 1 tsp hickory smoke salt
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • Salt, slightly less if smoked salt is used
  • 500 ml water
  • 530 ml BBQ sauce (Bulls Eye Barbecue Sauce), (recipe in my profile)
  • 9 rolls (baguette)

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 hours; Total time approx. 5 hours 20 minutes

pulled beef slowly roasted in the oven

Preheat the oven to 135°C (top/bottom heat). Roughly chop the onions. Place the meat in a large roasting pan and scatter the onions on top. Mix together Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke or smoked salt, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl, then add the cola. Pour the sauce into the roasting pan. Pour water over the meat and place the lid on the roasting pan. Roast the meat in the oven for 4 to 5 hours. After 4.5 hours, check whether the meat pulls apart easily with a fork. When the meat is cooked, pull it apart with two forks, place it in a bowl, and toss with the barbecue sauce. Place the meat in baguette rolls, place on a plate, and serve with coleslaw, if desired. Based on 9 servings, one serving has 401 kcal. Recipe for my Bulls Eye Barbecue Sauce: https://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/2152591345638882/Amerikanische-Bulls-Eye-Barbecue-Sauce.html
