Barley Recipes: Delicious bowl for breakfast
Pearl barley comes from barley and is eaten either as pearl barley (whole grain) or pearl barley (processed grain). Both variants are suitable for our recipe ideas – it all depends on whether you prefer to eat whole grain products or not. You can put together a pearl barley bowl for breakfast as you wish.
- Boil about 150 grams of pearl barley for 20 minutes and place in a bowl.
- Now cut up the fruit of your choice and arrange it on top of the pearl barley. Bananas, strawberries, kiwis, or even pomegranate seeds are delicious for breakfast.
- Add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and sprinkle your favorite nuts and seeds over the bowl. Take peanuts, sesame, chia seeds, flaxseed, or sunflower seeds, for example. Coconut flakes are also good.
- Finally, you can sweeten the bowl. Agave syrup, honey, or syrup can be used for this.
Pearl barley risotto with zucchini and mountain cheese
If you prefer to use pearl barley as a savory version, creamy risotto is the best option. You need the following ingredients: 150 grams of coarse pearl barley, an onion, a zucchini, 500 ml vegetable stock, oil for frying, 100 grams of mountain cheese, butter, salt, and pepper.
- Cut the onion into fine cubes and sauté them in a little oil in the pan. Then briefly add the pearl barley and then deglaze everything with vegetable broth.
- Finely grate the lemon zest and add it. Let everything simmer for about 20 minutes until the pearl barley is al dente.
- Wash the zucchini and then cut the vegetables into thin slices. Briefly sauté the zucchini in a pan with oil and season with salt and pepper.
- Grate the mountain cheese into fine strips. Then stir it into the pearl barley along with the butter (1 tablespoon).
- Finally, season the dish with salt and pepper. Arrange it on deep plates and garnish it with the fried zucchini strips.
Simple and filling: pearl barley stew with vegetables
For a hearty, filling barley stew that’s quick and easy to make, you’ll need the following ingredients: 150 grams of barley, two carrots, a stick of celery, an onion, and 500ml vegetable stock, oil for frying, and salt and pepper for seasoning. By the way: There are no limits to your choice of vegetables.
- Chop the carrots, celery, and onions and sauté the vegetables in a pan with oil.
- Add the washed pearl barley to the vegetables and let them swell. The dish must now simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Finally, season the stew with salt and pepper. You can also add a dash of cream if you like.
