The perfect red cabbage a la grandma recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 1 glass Red cabbage
- 1 Pc Onion
- 1 Pc Garlic clove small
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
- 1 Pc Apple
- 3 Pc Cloves
- 1 Pc Bay leaf
- Possibly vegetable broth
- Some water
- Dice the onion and sauté in vegetable oil. Add the red cabbage from the glass. Swing out the glass with water and add to the saucepan (approx. 1/2 glass full). Chop the clove of garlic and add to the saucepan with the cloves and bay leaf. Peel and core the apple and cut into wedges. Add to the saucepan, stir and let everything simmer for approx. 30-45 minutes. If the apple is overcooked, add the vegetable stock to taste. The herb tastes particularly good with beef roulades and dumplings. But it is also very, very tasty just with dumplings. And it’s best to prepare it a day in advance – simply irresistible when warmed.
