Red Fruit Jelly With Vanilla Sauce

“Kiek mol wat lütt Hein hüüt it. Rodegrütt, dat is a Eeten.” Red fruit jelly is so popular with North Germans that the Low German poet Hermann Claudius dedicated a poem to this folk dish.

Red fruit jelly cake

Red fruit jelly thickened with starch or gelatine is an ideal topping for a crispy shortcrust pastry base. Even on a finished fruit crust, Rote Grütze with a little frosting not only looks good. This quick cake tastes good too!

It is up to you and your time frame whether you reach for your own homemade red fruit jelly or just thicken one from the refrigerated section.
