Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 400 g lentils, red
  • 80 g butter, in cubes
  • 2 tsp cumin, lightly roasted and crushed
  • 1 small onion(s), finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
  • 1 chili pepper(s), fresh, green, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp coriander, fresh, chopped
  • some ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, deseeded, diced
  • Salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Cook the lentils in a sufficient amount of water with half the butter until soft. Melt the remaining butter in a deep pan and lightly sauté the diced onion, garlic, and chili. Add the soft lentils and sauté briefly. Add the cumin, garam masala, and ginger. Season with salt. Finally, stir in the coriander and tomatoes. If desired, stir in a tablespoon of natural yogurt. This dish tastes great with Indian dishes, as a side dish to grilled meat, or with fresh baguette.
