Red lentils with yogurt

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 cup lentils, red
  • 1 onion(s), finely chopped
  • 1 tomato(s), chopped
  • 1 medium-sized potato(s), cut into small cubes
  • some curry leaves
  • 1 tsp, leveled turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin, whole
  • 1 chili pepper(s), green
  • 500 ml water
  • 2 tbsp ghee or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of yogurt (150 ml)

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Dal

First, heat the ghee or oil in a medium saucepan. Add the cumin, curry leaves (available fresh or dried at Asian stores), turmeric, and onions and sauté for 1 minute. Then add the remaining ingredients, except the yogurt. Simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, and add a little more water if needed. Arrange the lentils on 2 plates. Add 1/2 cup of yogurt to each plate and stir in. Serve with white bread, flatbread, chapatis, or rice.
