Reheating Chicken: You Should Pay Attention to This

How to properly reheat chicken

If you have chicken left over after eating and don’t want to throw it away, you can reheat the meat. However, you should note the following tips:

  • Store the boiled or fried chicken meat in the refrigerator for no more than three days. The longer the meat sits, the greater the risk of salmonella spreading to the chicken.
  • Salmonella is bacteria that can cause salmonella poisoning with abdominal cramps and diarrhea. In order to kill any bacteria that may be present in the meat, it is important to reheat it evenly and thoroughly before eating it.
  • Therefore, do not reheat the chicken in the microwave. The microwave can ensure that some areas of the meat are underheated and salmonella can survive.
It is better to reheat cooked or fried chicken in the oven or in the pan – just as you originally prepared it.
  • However, the taste of reheated chicken may change compared to freshly cooked meat. This is due to the contact between the meat and the oxygen in the air – this breaks down the fat cells in the chicken and gives it a slightly rancid aftertaste.
  • Therefore, keep the meat airtight or cover it with sauce, for example. This means that less oxygen gets to the chicken or the flavor remains even after heating.
