Reheating Spinach: Is It Harmful?

Is it harmful to reheat spinach?

If you have leftover spinach from the day before, you can easily use it again the next day. Nevertheless, you should note a few things.

  • Just because you reheat spinach isn’t automatically bad for you. The rumor comes from a time when hygiene standards were far worse than they are today.
  • The problem is the nitrite found in spinach. Bacteria like to spread here. If you don’t observe the correct handling of spinach, this can actually become dangerous.
  • Properly chilled and sealed, you can easily heat up spinach the following day and do not expose yourself to any danger.
  • The only exception: Do not let small children eat the warmed-up spinach. Infants should not eat spinach at all.

How to easily reheat spinach

  1. Chill the leftover spinach immediately after eating. Then keep it in a closed box.
  2. It is best to place the spinach in the freezer. This prevents the bacteria from spreading.
  3. The next day you can prepare the spinach as usual.
