Croatian cabbage rolls

Carefully remove the thick stalk at the end of the cabbage leaves. Mix the minced meat with salt, pepper, paprika, chopped onion, chopped garlic, rice, and egg. Then stuff the cabbage leaves with the cabbage leaves and wrap them into very small roulades. First, place a layer of the leftover cabbage in a wide dish, then layer the roulades tightly together. Finally, add another layer of cabbage leaves. Pour water over the cabbage leaves, add 1 cup of oil, and simmer over low heat for about 2 hours. It’s best to prepare the roulades the day before and refrigerate them overnight. They turn out particularly well the next day when warmed in a small casserole dish with a little sauce in the oven and served with the cabbage. For the sauce, heat oil in a pot or deep pan, stir in a little flour, and add tomato paste. Bring everything to a boil, stirring constantly. Then deglaze with the broth from the roulades until the desired consistency and quantity is reached. Serve with boiled potatoes or white bread.
