Ingredients for 12 servings:
- 1 can sauerkraut
- 1 tbsp caraway seeds
- 2 tsp, heaped sugar
- 12 rolls, for baking
- 1 kg minced beef
- 1 tomato(s)
- 2 chili peppers
- 1 egg(s)
- 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 2 onions
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 clove(s) garlic
- 6 slices of processed cheese
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tbsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
Instructions
Working time approx. 45 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes
Place the sauerkraut in a pot with caraway seeds, bay leaves, and sugar and simmer. Finely dice the tomatoes, onions, and chili. Add the minced meat, tomato paste, salt and pepper, the egg, and the breadcrumbs, and knead thoroughly. Form 12 burger patties from the mixture and fry them on both sides in a little oil. When the meat is cooked through, cut open the buns, place half a slice of processed cheese on each burger, place a patty on top, and place the other half of the bun on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 10 minutes. Remove the buns from the oven, top the meat with sauerkraut, and serve.
