Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 750 g minced lamb (or other meat)
  • 25 g butter
  • 2 medium-sized onions, thinly sliced
  • 40 g flour
  • 1 tsp mustard, ground or hot mustard
  • 600 ml chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp fresh peppermint, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp parsley
  • Salt and pepper, ground, to taste
  • 4 large potatoes, floury, cooked and mashed
  • 60 ml milk, hot
  • 30 g butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Working time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour

Grease a sufficiently large casserole dish with butter or margarine. Fry the onion rings in hot fat until golden brown, add the minced lamb and brown as well. Season with pepper, salt, mustard, parsley, and peppermint. Sprinkle the flour over the dish and mix well. Deglaze with the chicken stock and mix well. Remove from the heat and pour into the dish. For the topping, mash the mashed potatoes with the milk, butter, pepper, and salt until smooth. Spread evenly over the meat and roughen the surface slightly. Finally, bake the casserole in an oven preheated to 200°C for 40-45 minutes, until the potato topping is golden brown.
