Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 500 g beef, diced
  • 5 tbsp lard
  • 500 g minced meat (beef)
  • 2 m.-sized onion(s)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp thyme, dried
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 150 ml beef broth
  • 400 g tomatoes, peeled, diced
  • 750 g kidney beans (can), drained

Sear the beef in 3 tablespoons of hot lard, then transfer to a roasting pan. Brown the minced meat in the remaining 2 tablespoons of lard and add to the meat. Peel and dice the onions and garlic, and fry until translucent. Add all the spices, deglaze with the beef broth, and add to the meat along with the tomatoes. Cover and cook in a hot oven at 150°C. After 2 hours, add the drained kidney beans and let the dish cook uncovered for about 30 minutes. Serve with fresh farmhouse bread. Tip: If you don’t like kidney beans, you can replace them with fresh bell peppers. But then only cook for about 15 minutes.
