Spicy braised beef cubes

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g beef
  • 500 ml beer
  • 20 g butter
  • 100 g smoked bacon, diced
  • 3 onions
  • 1 tsp paprika powder, hot
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds, ground
  • ½ tsp marjoram
  • salt and pepper
  • 100 g tomato paste
  • 50 g wheat flour
  • 1 lemon(s)
  • 1 bunch of dill or parsley

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 8 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 2 hours; Total time approx. 10 hours 30 minutes

Cut the beef into small cubes and marinate in beer overnight. The next day, fry the diced smoked bacon and diced onions in butter until translucent. Drain the beef cubes and fry them as well. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and marjoram, and pour in the beer marinade. The meat cubes should be just covered with liquid. Add a little water or beef broth if necessary. Simmer over low heat until the beef cubes are tender. Now stir in the tomato paste, thicken with flour or starch dissolved in water, and add the lemon juice. Bring back to a boil briefly, season to taste, and serve with finely chopped dill or parsley.
