This quick sponge cake recipe is always a success and can be easily refined with your ingredients to taste.

Basic sponge cake recipe: You need this

You probably have most of the ingredients for a sponge cake at home, it only takes 15 minutes to prepare and the oven does the rest. You need these ingredients:

  • 200 grams of softened butter
  • 150 grams of sugar
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 400 grams of flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 150 milliliters of milk
  • Some powdered sugar to sprinkle on top
  • You can also refine your cake with your ingredients according to taste, for example with cherries, raisins, or chocolate.

How to prepare the sponge cake

You will need a hand mixer and a Gugelhupf or loaf pan for the preparation.

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Cream the butter with vanilla sugar, sugar, and salt.
  • Then stir in the eggs one at a time.
  • Mix the flour with the baking powder and stir it into the butter-egg mixture alternately with the milk.
  • The dough is then poured into the greased form and, depending on the type of oven, baked for about an hour.
  • Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before turning it out. Finally, sprinkle it with powdered sugar.
