Stew: Kohlrabi from Your Own Garden

The perfect stew: kohlrabi from your own garden recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 kg Kohlrabi fresh
  • 5 Carrots
  • 6 Potatoes
  • 2,5 kg Beef leg slice with marrow
  • Salt and pepper
  • Dried lovage
  • Ground cumin
  • Chopped parsley
  1. Wash the leg slices under running water and place in a large saucepan. Fill up with water until the leg slices are well covered and off to the stove. Bring to the boil when full, turn down and let simmer for about an hour. The meat should then come off the marrow bone well, but not be overcooked.
  2. In the meantime, peel the kohlrabi and cut into cubes. Do the same with the carrots and potatoes. (Please do not take the procedure literally, we will stay in the kitchen.)
  3. If the meat is cooked but not overcooked, it is cut into bite-sized pieces. Then we add the chopped vegetables, put the lid on and let it simmer for another half an hour.
  4. When the potatoes, cabbage pods and carrots are done, season them. In the way everyone likes it. After all, it should taste good. At the very end, when the meal is already on the plate, we add fresh parsley.
  5. I’ll say bon appétit and have fun with the eventual cooking.
