Store Carrots Correctly! This Is How Carrots Stay Fresh For A Long Time

Carrots are versatile in the kitchen and are true all-around talents! But it is not uncommon for them to lie in the fridge like rubber after just one day and are no longer usable. Does that sound familiar to you? Here you will find useful information about the optimal storage of healthy and popular roots.

Covered in the fridge

Carrots like it cool. It is best to keep them in the fridge to keep them longer. If you then cover them with a cloth or put them in an airtight box, they will last even longer!

Without herb, but with sand!

Before you put it in the fridge, you should remove the herb first. It is best if you cut it off immediately after purchase or harvest. It removes water and nutrients from the carrots and therefore promotes wilting.

Tip: Be sure to put the carrots unwashed in the fridge. From my own experience, I can tell you that they will turn brown otherwise. So it’s worth putting up with the dirt or sand on the carrots.

In the basement

If you don’t have enough space in the refrigerator to store the carrots, they can be in the basement or another cool place. Then take a box and pour sand into it. Lay the carrots in the sand and pour another layer of sand on top. Again, you should remove the herb beforehand. In this way, the carrots will also last longer and there is still room in the fridge for other delicious things!

Avoid these mistakes!

Mistakes are often made unknowingly during storage, which speeds up spoilage considerably. It is important to be aware of this and to avoid it in the future.

Plastic no thanks!

Carrots don’t like plastic! They are often packed in plastic boxes in the supermarket, sometimes even shrink-wrapped. This is not only a burden on the environment but also on the roots. In the warm, humid environment, they start to sweat and thus quickly mold. You should therefore quickly remove them from their packaging after shopping.

It depends on the neighbors!

Did you know that carrots don’t like other fruit next to them in the fridge? Some types of fruit continue to ripen, releasing the ripening gas ethylene. In the case of carrots and some other types of vegetables and fruit, this means that they spoil more quickly when stored.

Please sterile!

Everyone is aware that the refrigerator should always be kept clean. The reason is obvious. If the refrigerator is not cleaned properly, bacteria remain in the compartments and cause food to spoil quickly – including carrots. It is therefore essential to avoid food residues in your refrigerator.
