5 good alternatives as a substitute for baking paper
Packing paper should prevent pizza and co. from sticking to the tray or the grid. However, other methods also lead to this goal. However, they cannot be used without restrictions.
- What you end up using depends on what you want to bake or cook and what you have available.
- Some foods are already greasy enough that you don’t need to put anything underneath them. Others require oil or fat on a pad.
- Heavy mixtures need additional flour so that nothing sticks.
1. The baking sheet
The baking sheet is an ideal solution when there is no baking paper. It is best if you opt for a coated baking tray. The non-stick coating prevents the food from sticking during preparation.
- You can also simply prepare the pizza that you don’t want to do without at the moment on the baking tray. Spread a regular baking sheet with margarine beforehand or spread some oil evenly on it. This method is also suitable for raw rolls.
- If you want to prepare cake mixture on the tray without baking paper, spread additional breadcrumbs or just flour after greasing and then pour the cake over it. This method should also provide a non-stick result.
2. Bread paper
Bread paper has similar properties to baking paper and can therefore be used as baking paper in the same way.
- Alternatively, you can use bread paper, which is probably the most tolerable and healthiest method.
- Since it is relatively thin, it is best to use several layers, applying a thin coat of oil or fat to the bottom layer. This way you can be sure that nothing sticks.
3. Aluminum foil
Another possibility is the aluminum foil on the grating. However, there are conditions attached to this:
- What you put on it must not be too heavy. This is not suitable for a cake mixture. French fries, rolls, or baked potatoes can be prepared very well with it.
- Before you put anything on it, the same applies here: grease it with butter, margarine, or oil. Don’t use too much, though, or the fat will drip off the foil and possibly burn on the bottom of the oven. Alternatively, you can fold the ends of the foil slightly upwards.
4. Silicone mats
So-called baking mats or baking foils made of silicone offer a better method.
- They are easy to clean and reusable. Nothing sticks to it and you can simply wipe it off with a little washing-up liquid and water.
- The downside is the silicone itself and the plasticizer it contains.
5. Permanent baking foils
Permanent baking foils also help you in an emergency:
- Permanent baking foils made of Teflon are also an alternative to conventional baking paper. They are very durable, reusable, and usually dishwasher safe.
- They come in different forms depending on the area of application. You can also cut the foil yourself so that you can line your baking tray or kitchen utensils well.
