Sweet and sour sauce

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 4 carrots, not too small
  • 3 onions
  • 1 can pineapple pieces, drained, collecting the juice
  • 2 bell peppers, red
  • ½ liter orange juice
  • ¼ liter vinegar
  • 150 g brown sugar
  • ½ pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 5 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • some water
  • possibly bamboo shoot(s)
  • possibly palm hearts

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

for duck or breaded pork, breaded vegetables, etc.

Halve the carrots and slice thinly. Finely dice the onions. Quarter the bell peppers and slice thinly. Sauté the bell peppers, carrots, and onions, add the brown sugar, and wait until it melts. Add the vinegar, orange juice, pineapple juice, chili, ketchup, and garlic. Boil everything until the vinegar is at a tolerable strength. Add a little more orange juice or vinegar to taste. Finally, thicken with cornstarch mixed with a little water. Bamboo shoots and hearts of palm can also be added, if desired.
