Sweet cherry compote according to Grandma Grete

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g sweet cherries, fresh
  • 2 tbsp sugar, to taste
  • n. B. water

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 4 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 4 hours 30 minutes

for the microwave

Wash the cherries, pit them (not necessary!), and place them in a microwave-safe container with a lid. I usually use the Tupperware Micro-Cook 1-liter container. Add sugar to taste and mix. Then add enough water to cover the cherries. Cover. Microwave at 600 watts for about 6-10 minutes. After 6 minutes, check how soft the cherries are, as every microwave is different. If necessary, cook for another 4 minutes. Then let the compote cool. Caution: The compote will continue to thicken. So if the broth seems a bit watery at first, it will take on a reddish color after cooling. On hot days, the compote tastes especially good if it has been chilled in the refrigerator first. Goes well with pancakes or similar dishes. Note: Grandma Grete obviously didn’t have a microwave. Therefore, it is recommended to use a saucepan for larger quantities of cherries. The same procedure: First, bring the cherries to a boil and then simmer the compote on medium heat for another 5-10 minutes.
