Tea for Sore Throat: These Varieties Relieve the Symptoms

A tea works against a sore throat if you have chosen the right type of tea. It is not uncommon for people to wake up with the symptoms in the morning during the cold season. We explain to you which herbs you can brew.

Chamomile tea for sore throat

In principle, you can use any herbal tea to treat a sore throat. With some teas, however, the effect is particularly effective. These undisputedly include chamomile blossoms.

  • Do not brew the tea from tea bags, but from dried and untreated chamomile flowers.
  • Chamomile tea soothes your irritated mucous membranes and even fights the pathogens that multiply in your throat.
  • The plant also contains mucilage that soothes the throat.
  • You can also make a gargle solution from concentrated chamomile ( Kamillosan ). Add a few drops to 100ml of lukewarm water and gargle for 30 seconds.

Sage also helps against a sore throat

Another medicinal plant used to soothe a sore throat is sage.

  • Sage is very aromatic and is therefore often used in cooking.
  • In the context of a sore throat, it has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect.
  • Brewed sage not only relieves the pain in the throat, but also fights the pathogens.
  • If you don’t like the taste, refine it with honey. The tea tastes better that way.
  • If you let the cooked sage tea cool down, you can also use it for gargling during the day.

Drink ribwort tea for relief

Ribwort plantain is also good if you wake up in the morning with a sore throat or a cold is on the way.

  • A tea made from plantain also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • The polysaccharides it contains form a protective layer on the irritated mucous membranes and soothe them.
  • You can also make a cough syrup from plantain. You need a handful of plantain blossoms, 200 g of brown sugar and the juice of half a lemon.
  • Place the dried flowers in a sterilized jar and cover them alternately with sugar and lemon juice. Leave the sealed jar in a dark place for three months. Then place the glass in the hot, non-boiling water bath so that the contents liquefy.
  • Pour the juice through a sieve and pour into a bottle. Consume a tablespoonful three times a day. The juice will keep for several months.
