Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 120 g butter
  • 700 g onion(s)
  • 8 g salt
  • 5 g pepper
  • 160 g sugar
  • 200 ml vinegar (wine vinegar), red
  • 200 ml red wine
  • 30 ml grenadine (pomegranate syrup)

Finely chop the onions and combine them with butter, salt, pepper, and sugar in a saucepan. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 1 hour, until the onions are soft. Then add the vinegar, wine, and grenadine and simmer uncovered for 1 hour. The mixture should have a jam-like consistency. Transfer the onions to small jars and refrigerate. It will last for about 6 months. It pairs wonderfully with fondue, lamb, cheese, and sauces.
