These 16 Foods Can Be Frozen

In your freezer you only find pizza and fish fingers? Better clear that aside quickly and make room for the following 16 groceries. You’ll be amazed at what you can freeze and keep for a long time!

Some foods are stored intuitively in the fridge. But you could actually freeze them. Be brave with these foods because you can freeze them all. This has many advantages in everyday life, because even if there is no time to go shopping, you always have something at home!

Freeze Nuts

Yes, you read that right: Nuts keep longer in the freezer! The reason: the oils in the nuts freeze and prevent them from going rancid. This news will probably please everyone who likes to buy nuts in advance. It is best to always have nuts on hand: They are good for the heart and circulation, are high in protein and fiber, provide unsaturated fatty acids and are also great for snacking, baking and cooking.

Store cooked rice in the refrigerator

Who does not know it? You cook rice and – it’s too much! After all, rice contains a lot of complex carbohydrates and fills you up quickly and for a long time. But you don’t have to throw away the rest! You can also store cooked rice in the freezer in an airtight container. As soon as you need it again, you can easily heat it up again – for example by adding coconut milk. You have already conjured up a delicious rice pudding dessert.

Freeze grated cheese

There are many dishes that can be baked with grated cheese. You often grate too much cheese and a lot remains unused. Throw away? nope! You can simply put the grated cheese in a freezer bag and freeze it – until the next dish with gratinated cheese is due.

But cheese in one piece, such as Parmesan, can also be frozen excellently. It lasts up to four months! Simply take out when needed and grate while frozen.

Frozen Avocado Guacamole

The avocado is definitely one of those foods that we never thought you could freeze. But it really works. Here’s how it works: Cut the avocado open, peel it, remove the stone and sprinkle it with a little lemon juice if you like. Then put the fruit in a well-sealed freezer bag in the freezer.

When you defrost the avocado, it won’t have exactly the same texture as fresh fruit, but it won’t taste any different. It is ideal for a guacamole or to refine salads!

Ripe bananas: Ideal for the freezer

Ripe bananas often taste best – but they become overripe all too quickly. You can freeze them so they don’t end up in the trash. If a smoothie is coming up, you can use the frozen bananas. They can also be used for muesli, baking banana bread or fried bananas.

Surprisingly, potato chips can be frozen

Unfortunately, potato chips don’t stay fresh for long once you’ve opened them. It often happens that you have to throw away leftover chips because they are just too limp to eat. But we have the solution for you, because you can freeze potato chips. Close the opened package and put it in the freezer until the next couch evening. It only takes a few minutes for the chips to thaw again. Roasted briefly in the oven, they don’t have to lose any of their crispiness.

Wine cubes from the freezer

Hard to believe, but true: Wine can also be frozen! If you have any left over from the last wine evening, you can fill the rest into an ice cube tray and freeze. What is all this for? For the delicious wine sauce that will definitely be on your menu soon: Simply throw the wine cube into the pan with the sauce.

Alternatively, you can use the wine cubes to cool the wine that wasn’t in the fridge on the next wine evening: Instead of ice cubes, add the wine cubes to the warm wine (or sangria). That way it doesn’t get watery.

Sparkling wine & champagne

What applies to wine also applies to bubble drinks such as sparkling wine and champagne. These special ice cubes are also great for spicing up a glass of orange juice.

Freeze uncooked bacon

Bacon thaws fairly quickly at room temperature. That’s why it’s good to freeze it in slices. If necessary, simply defrost the desired amount – done. It is best to wrap the bacon slices in baking paper and then in a freezer bag. Off to the freezer!

Frozen Butter

It’s the secret weapon of many bakers: frozen butter! This is suitable, for example, for pies or biscuit dough. To freeze the butter, keep the original packaging and store in an airtight bag in the freezer.

Fresh herbs in ice cube form

There are two ways to freeze fresh herbs. 1. Chop finely, place in ice cube trays and fill with water. Freeze. These herb ice cubes come in small portions and you can only defrost as many as you need at a time. They are also very suitable as an addition to sauces. 2. Spread out the washed and dabbed dry herbs on a linen cloth and cover with cling film. You can also store the herbs in the freezer.

Cookie dough

Whether you make it yourself or use a ready-made mix: Spread the dough out in small portions on a linen cloth and freeze. Once the portions are frozen, you can stow them in a freezer bag and store them in the freezer. So you always have the dough ready – no matter when you feel like baking cookies. Remember to bake the frozen dough cookies about 2 minutes longer than usual.

Freeze fresh bread

You can simply wrap bread in aluminum foil and freeze it in a freezer bag. Defrost in the oven at around 150 degrees for five to ten minutes – and you’re ready to enjoy the bread. Tip: Only freeze fresh bread! Once dry, it won’t taste much better after freezing and thawing.

Yolk and white

The same applies to eggs as to wine and herbs: ice cube trays are a must! For example, you can freeze egg whites and yolks separately. The following applies: You can safely defrost the frozen protein cubes in the pan for your omelette. When it comes to egg yolks, let them thaw before you use them for baking.

Meat or vegetable broth

Homemade broth is a great ingredient in many dishes. Unfortunately, they are not always readily available. Our tip: Next time, simply boil a little more broth and then freeze the rest. If you fill it in an ice cube mold, you can even portion the broth very easily.

Freeze whipped cream

You can freeze spoonfuls of whipped cream on baking paper covered with a layer of wax. Once the portions are frozen, you can store them in a freezer bag. What is all this for? For example, to spice up the next cup of hot chocolate. The frozen cream will thaw right in your cup…mmmhhh…
