The remedy Triphala and its positive effects on the human body has been well known in Ayurvedic medicine for years. It is a mixture composed of three fruits, the amalaki fruit, the bibhitaki fruit and the haritaki fruit.
The effect of Triphala
The traditional herbal mixture Triphala, which actually consists of three different fruits, has been used in Indian medicine for over 1,000 years .
- Their ingredients are said to help against intestinal problems and have a laxative effect.
- Amalaki is the fruit of the Amla tree and is part of the herbal blend. The fruit contains amino acids, vitamin C, fatty acids and minerals, which together are said to be helpful against constipation.
- The Bibhitaki fruit, on the other hand, contains tannins and polyphenols, which is why it is used in Ayurvedic medicine against viral and bacterial infections, among other things.
- The fruit also contains ellagic and gallic acid, which is helpful against high blood sugar levels.
- The Haritaki fruit is the third fruit used in the Triphala remedy. In addition to stomach problems, it is also said to heal asthma and heart diseases. Above all, their effectiveness against constipation has been scientifically proven.
How to apply the remedy
You can take the remedy in different ways for ailments. There is Triphala powder, capsules or the option to take it in liquid form.
- If you wish to take the remedy in liquid form, add a teaspoon of Triphala powder and a teaspoon of honey to a glass of warm water . Give it a good stir and drink the mixture, especially between meals, so you don’t interfere too much with the digestion of the food.
- If you take Triphala capsules, the recommended daily dose is usually two capsules a day, which you should take with plenty of liquid.
- It can also be used as a mouthwash. To do this, boil a glass of water and add a teaspoon of Triphala powder. Stir the mixture well and rinse your mouth thoroughly with it several times.

- You can only increase the dose a little in the case of very severe constipation.
You should keep this in mind when taking Triphala
Even though Triphala primarily has a positive effect on your health, there are a few things you should keep in mind when taking it.
- In the best case, do not exceed the suggested daily dose in order not to get stomach problems.
- If you take the remedy too often, you may flush out many nutrients from your system. This can mess up your electrolyte balance.
- Since the medical effects on children and pregnant women have not yet been researched, they should avoid taking Triphala. It would be possible for these groups that the effect could be too strong.
- Also, due to its laxative effects, Triphala can reduce the effectiveness of medications you take regularly.
