Dark circles under your eyes make you look tired and stressed. Luckily, there are practical tips and products that you can use to fight unsightly shadows. Find out here how dark circles appear and what really helps against them.
This is how dark circles are formed
Conspicuous shadows under the eyes can have a variety of causes. The most common, however, is insufficient blood flow to this sensitive area of the skin. The usual reasons for this: lack of oxygen or moisture in the body.
In fact, under the thin skin of this region there are many blood and lymphatic vessels. And since the skin here has little fatty tissue, it quickly becomes apparent when circulation is inhibited. In this case, the blood becomes darker and flows more slowly. The dilated vessels then appear more clearly through the thin skin. The optical result: shadows.
Puffy circles under the eyes are also possible. These occur when lymphatic fluid is not transported away correctly and the tissue swells.
Cosmetics against dark circles: care products and make-up
In the fight against dark circles, rely on cosmetic ingredients with a moisturizing and plumping effect. These include: hyaluronic acid, vitamin C (this nutrient contributes to the normal function of the skin and blood vessels), and Q10. A mask or eye cream with these ingredients is recommended if you tend to have dark circles. Because dark vessels don’t shine through as much under well-nourished, plump skin. The region immediately appears more even and fresher. Use these beauty helpers regularly for a more alert, radiant look.
As an acute SOS measure, we recommend creamy concealer. Gently pat the concealing fluid under the eyes to conceal shadows or puffiness.
Our tip: store concealer in the fridge. The cold when applied encourages the vessels to contract. Shadows and swellings are thus optically reduced.
Practical tips: How to avoid dark circles
In addition to cosmetic eye care, the best weapon against dark circles is of course a healthy lifestyle with the necessary beauty sleep. Very important here: Make sure you drink enough fluids (ideally 2 liters a day). Also, minimize your alcohol and tobacco consumption. Both can promote a lack of oxygen in the blood and thus the development of dark circles under the eyes. If you have swollen circles under your eyes, it is also advisable to sleep with your upper body elevated at night. This means that any lymphatic fluid does not collect under the eyes, but drains away.
