If you have a leftover rocket, you can easily use the mustard rocket. How about a salad or hot oil, for example? Both taste delicious and you don’t have to throw the leafy greens in the garbage can.
Use arugula: hot arugula oil
If you put the rocket leftovers in oil, this can then be used to refine salads. Together with chili, the vegetables result in a spicy mixture that can always be used in the kitchen.
- To do this, first, clean the leafy greens. Then put it in small bottles.
- For the spiciness, wash another chili pepper and add it to the rocket.
- Fill the bottle with enough oil to completely cover the leafy greens. You can use olive or sunflower oil for this, for example.
- Then cap the bottle. Leave the homemade oil in a cool, dark place for 14 days.
- Then pour off the finished oil and store it in a dark glass bottle.
More ideas for using arugula
Rocket can actually be combined well with any dish and used up with it.
- Salads: Add the washed arugula to whatever salad you are preparing. Whether it’s a simple farmer’s salad, potato salad, or Italian bread salad, you can refine any salad with leafy greens.
- Soups and stews: If you are cooking a soup or stew, add the rucola, finely chopped. The vegetables don’t make your soup any worse.
- Leftover casserole: How about a leftover casserole for dinner? Boil some potatoes and mix them with the leftover arugula, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon, ham, and/or cheese.
- Sandwich: A sandwich with ham, cheese, and arugula tastes just as good. Combine the remaining mustard rocket with a few slices of tomatoes and pickles, for example.
