What Is a Flying Mango?

Spread the love

A mango commonly referred to as a flying mango is imported from the producing country by plane rather than by ship. Due to the short transport time, the mango does not have to be harvested unripe. Instead, it can mature on the tree for a full three months and thus develops a particularly intense aroma. To protect the fruits from too much sun, they are wrapped in bags during the ripening period. They have to be packed very carefully during transport so that there are no bruises and the mangoes do not spoil.

In addition to the flying mango, there are other fruits that are offered as flying fruit. These include lychees, pineapples, and bananas. Like the flying mango, these types of fruit also have a particularly intense fruit aroma. Due to the high production and transport costs, flying fruit is significantly more expensive than fruit that is harvested unripe and transported by ship.
