Raw food dishes have a reputation for being particularly healthy and suitable for diets. But a one-sided raw food diet is not that healthy. In this tip, we explain exactly what raw food is and what you need to pay attention to when dieting:
Raw food – tasty and healthy
Raw food is everything that is left as natural as possible. In general German usage, raw food usually means plant food that has not been cooked or heated – i.e. fruit, vegetables, or roots in the raw state.
- There are also raw animal foods, such as tartare.
- When vegetables and fruit are heated, some important vitamins and nutrients are lost. That is why raw food is considered particularly healthy. The German Society for Nutrition actually recommends eating fruit or vegetables five times a day.
- However, a one-sided raw food diet is strongly discouraged. The body not only needs vitamins but also proteins and fats. If the raw food diet is too long, there is a risk of deficiency symptoms.
The raw food diet is explained simply
Many people try to lose weight by following a raw food diet. They avoid heated, boiled, and fried foods as well as milk and dairy products. Others also use raw food to detox. The aim is to rid the body of unhealthy and toxic substances.
- It is therefore mainly vegetable fats that are absorbed by the body. They come from fruit, vegetables, dried fruit, and nuts.
- There is a lot of fiber in raw vegetables. They fill you up quickly.
- However, you should not go on a raw food diet for longer than a week. Otherwise, the body will lack important nutrients.
