Cooked on the cob sweetcorn is primarily high in carbohydrates and is a high-energy vegetable at 106 calories per 100 grams. However, corn contains hardly any fat. Cooked fresh corn on the cob not only provides energy but also healthy nutrients.
While the corn loses many nutrients during cooking, it still contains various B vitamins and the minerals potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, manganese, and zinc, as well as filling fiber. In canned sweetcorn, the nutrient content is slightly lower. Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine, deserves special mention. The water-soluble vitamin contributes, among other things, to normal energy-yielding metabolism and the normal functioning of the nervous system.
