What Oil Shouldn’t be Used to Fry Potatoes – Doctors Gave an Answer

Fried foods are not only high in calories, but also high in trans fats, so eating them in large quantities can increase the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.

According to the Center for Public Health of Ukraine, one small baked potato (100 grams) contains 93 calories and 0 grams of fat, while the same amount (100 grams) of French fries contains 319 calories and 17 grams of fat.

Fried foods are not only high in calories, but also contain a lot of trans fats, so eating them in large quantities can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.

However, you can get your favorite crispy crust in other ways that are much healthier:

  • Use a small amount of oil to coat the surface of the food and then roast it in the oven instead of deep frying it;
  • to make a crispy crust, add crispy ingredients to the outside of the dish, then roast in the oven instead of frying in hot oil;
  • to make the meat juicier, marinate it in butter and then roast it in the oven;
  • Instead of regular flour, which absorbs a lot of oil in the dough, you can use gluten-free flour, such as corn or rice.

What oil is best for frying potatoes

Coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil are some of the healthiest oils. Cooking oils that contain high levels of polyunsaturated fats are much less durable and form acrylamide at high temperatures.

These include canola oil, rice bran oil, grape seed oil, soybean oil, corn oil, and sunflower oil According to experts, you should not fry potatoes in sunflower and homemade fatty oils.
