Swelling of the legs is a popular problem among adults and the elderly. Many people encounter this problem in hot weather, as our body dilates blood vessels to avoid overheating. In the lower extremities, blood flows more slowly upward and accumulates, causing the legs to swell.
Lift up your feet
If your feet often swell during the day, try the following exercise: lie on a bed or sofa on your back and lift your feet above your body. Hold your feet in a balanced position, or rest them on a wall. Stay in this position for at least 10 minutes. Repeat the exercise several times a day to remove swelling from the legs.
Drink more water
Not drinking enough water causes the blood to clot, which aggravates swelling. Also, the lack of water leads to an excess of salt in the body, which can also lead to swelling. On hot days it is important to drink at least 2 liters of water per day. Learn to always carry a bottle of water with you.
Wear comfortable shoes
If you often have swollen feet in summer, you have to put aside in the closet beautiful, but uncomfortable and narrow shoes. In such shoes, the circulation of the legs significantly worsens. Choose shoes that are comfortable and practical in size and on a low walk. Give preference to models made of natural fabrics and with ventilation of the foot.
Move around more
Physical activity makes the leg muscles work and improves circulation in the lower extremities. People with a sedentary lifestyle have swollen feet more often. Therefore swimming, cycling, taking frequent walks and other physical activities are excellent prevention measures.
Control your diet
Salty and spicy food may aggravate edema, so it is better to refuse this kind of food in summer. You should also drink less alcohol. Some foods are natural diuretics and relieve swelling: spinach, lettuce, green beans, asparagus, pineapples, and lemons.
Wear special knee socks
Wear compression stockings or socks to reduce fluid accumulation in the feet and ankles. You can buy such stockings at an orthopedic store.
