Find your skin type and the right facial care

Before you start your facial care, you should know what skin type you have. Our rules of thumb will help you:

If your skin is taut and not very sensitive, you have normal skin with healthy fat and water balance.
Women with combination skin have other problems. The forehead, nose, and chin (the so-called T-zone) tend to be greasy, while the cheeks and eye areas dry out more quickly.
If you have frequent pimples or blackheads and your skin has an oily shine next to your skin imperfections, then you have oily skin. This skin type produces more sebum. It is particularly important to ensure that the care substances used are non-comedogenic.
If your skin is tighter and tends to form small wrinkles, your skin’s sebum production is reduced and it cannot store as much moisture: you have dry skin. Under certain circumstances, dry skin can go hand in hand with sensitive skin. Then your skin reacts very sensitively to the ingredients of cosmetics and to the environment, so that particularly gentle care is advisable.

Clean your face every day? Is that not too much?

If you put on make-up every day, you have to regularly remove make-up residues, mascara, tinted day creams, powder and the like from your face. Why? Product residues that are not washed off can irritate the skin, clog pores and dry out lips. In addition, it can happen that your eyelashes break if you do not remove the mascara. For people with oily skin, daily facial cleansing is advisable even if they do not use decorative cosmetics. For this, you should use products specially designed for oily skin. The evening facial care goes particularly quickly with cleaning wipes, for example. They remove your make-up reliably and provide moisture at the same time.

Facial cleansing with just water – is that enough?

If you generally do not wear make-up, you can wash your face with normal and dry skin before going to bed with just plain water. You do not necessarily need additional cleaning products in this case.

Products for facial cleansing: How to perfectly care for your face

Washing gels are particularly suitable for combination and oily skin. They start to foam on contact with water and thoroughly cleanse your skin. Cleansing lotions or milks with moisturizing ingredients are suitable for dry skin, as they provide the skin with additional moisture and compensate for the lack of sebum.

Facial tonic cleanses your skin from the last traces of make-up and refreshes after washing. It is best to always use alcohol-free facial toner, otherwise, alcohol will dry out your skin. Micellar water is a special miracle weapon because it cleanses as effectively as a face milk, but only needs to be dabbed on with a cotton pad. This protects sensitive facial skin.

Pore-deep and thorough – facial care with mask

If you really want to pamper yourself and clean your face regularly and deep into the pores, we offer you a soothing and relaxing option with our elkos face masks. How to apply your feel-good mask step-by-step:

  1. Wash face with water before applying mask.
  2. Distribute contents slowly and carefully over face. It is best to apply to the cheeks, forehead, and chin with circular movements – this relaxes and promotes blood circulation in your facial skin. Avoid eyes (including eyebrows) and mouth.
  3. When the time indicated on the pack has passed, rinse the mask off thoroughly with water and dry your face with a fresh towel.
  4. Now just apply the right moisturizer – done!

Facial care: don’t forget to apply lotion!

After cleansing your face down to the pores with a mask or peeling gel, you should ensure that the outside is sufficiently moisturized. You can choose a face cream or lotion that suits your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, it is a good idea to test a new product before using it: To do this, put some cream on your finger and spread some of it in the crook of your arm. In case of doubt, possible irritations caused by the new face cream will only be visible on the inside of your arm and not immediately on your face. Stress is poison for our skin. Like little sleep, alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine, too much stress have a negative effect on our skin. For example, when you’re under a lot of pressure, your body produces cortisol, a stress hormone that can age your skin faster and accelerate collagen breakdown. Skin irritations can be the result. Therefore, regularly take time for yourself and your beauty. Read your favorite magazine, cook up healthy recipes or sit on your balcony with homemade infused water (flavored water). The wellness moment for your skin – liquid for a radiant complexion.

A sufficient liquid is important for our skin because drinking water promotes blood circulation and thus supports the vitality of the skin. For example, by drinking our infused water with grapefruit and pomegranate, the skin is better supplied with blood and oxygen. Your skin metabolism is boosted, which in turn has a positive effect on the protective and defensive functions of our skin. A great side effect if you drink a lot of water: your skin looks fresher in the long run!

But not only with enough water or liquid you can influence the appearance of your skin, a balanced and healthy diet also plays a major role.

Facial care – sweet, fruity & good for your skin

Even with a simple snack, you can positively influence the appearance of your skin! Soft fruit is available all year round, consists largely of water, and thus provides our skin with the moisture it needs. Blueberries, raspberries & Co. also contain folic acid, vitamin C, and manganese. These three substances can act like a face mask from the inside because they can help to give your complexion a fresh and alert appearance: just like vitamin C, folic acid helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue and also has a function in cell division. This means that your skin is supported in cell renewal. Vitamin C is important for normal collagen formation in the skin and, like manganese, is responsible for protecting cells from oxidative stress. Thus, these nutrients can help prevent premature skin aging caused by free radicals released in the skin by sunlight.
