Ingredients for 2 servings:
- 1,000 g flour
- 175 g sugar
- 100 g margarine or butter
- 50 g lard
- 15 g salt
- 75 g yeast, fresh, or 2 sachets of dry yeast
- 500 ml milk
- 1 egg yolk
- some milk, for brushing
Instructions
Working time approx. 40 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 35 minutes
Heat the milk and dissolve the yeast in it. Mix 600g of flour, salt, and the yeast milk into a soft dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Mix the softened margarine/butter and lard with the sugar until creamy. Mix the prepared dough, remaining flour, and sugar mixture together. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Halve the dough and divide each into 3 strands, each about 50cm long. Twist each 3 strands into a plait and let rise for another 30 minutes. Mix the egg yolk with a little milk and brush the plaits with it. If you like, you can also sprinkle coarse sugar on the plaits and press it in slightly. Bake at 180°C fan oven for 20-25 minutes.
