Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 12 slices of wholemeal toast
- 12 slices of cooked ham or mortadella
- 12 slice(s) cheese to taste
- butter
- 1 can of tomatoes
- basil, fresh
- salt and pepper

To prevent the toast slices from getting soggy in the oven, I first fry them briefly in a nonstick pan without any fat. Then brush them with butter, season the tomatoes with salt and pepper, and arrange them on the slices. Top with a few washed fresh basil leaves. Top with cooked ham or mortadella, then with the sliced cheese. Place them on a baking sheet and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes, until the sliced cheese has melted.
