Homemade Maultaschen

The perfect homemade maultaschen recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

For the dough:

  • 200 g Flour
  • 2 Pc. Eggs
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Water

For the filling:

  • 1 Pc. Chopped onion
  • 100 g Frozen spinach
  • 150 g Minced meat
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 3 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  • 0,5 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Liquid butter
  1. Mix and knead all the ingredients for the dough in a bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rest for 20 minutes. Mix the onion cubes, minced meat, breadcrumbs, frozen spinach and spices in a bowl.
  2. Roll out the pasta dough on a floured work surface into a thin, square plate. If necessary, straighten the sides with a pastry wheel. Place small heaps of the filling on one half of the pastry. Brush the gaps with the liquid butter so that the dough sticks better. Now fold the second half of the dough over it.
  3. Carefully press the dough pieces on with your fingers, then cut out the dumplings with a rolling pin. Bring salted water to the boil in a saucepan and simmer the Maultaschen in it for about 15 minutes.
