Cauliflower with cheese sauce and cooked ham

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 head of cauliflower, fresh or frozen
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 250 ml water
  • 125 ml milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 100 g cheese, grated
  • 30 g flour
  • 250 g cooked ham, diced
  • salt and pepper
  • nutmeg
  • oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Clean the cauliflower or defrost frozen cauliflower and cook until tender. For the sauce, sauté the diced onions in oil until translucent. Add the water, milk, a pinch of salt, and nutmeg, and bring to a boil briefly. In a small bowl, mix the sour cream, egg yolk, and flour well and add to the water and milk mixture. Bring everything to a boil while stirring. Then strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a new pot. Place the new pot on the stove over low heat. Melt the diced ham and cheese in the sauce. Stir well, otherwise the sauce will burn very quickly. Serve with boiled potatoes and a green salad.
