Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 rolls
  • 125 ml white wine
  • 8 slices of cheese, hearty, e.g. old Gouda
  • 100 g onion(s)
  • 200 ml cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 40 g butter
  • 1 bunch of chives
  • Salt and pepper, white

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Slice the rolls and drizzle with wine. Grease a shallow baking dish with 10 grams of butter. Melt the remaining butter, dice the onions, and sauté in the hot fat. Layer the rolls and cheese slices alternately in the dish. Whisk the eggs and cream, season with salt and pepper, and pour over the rolls. Spread the sautéed onions on top and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 20-30 minutes. Sprinkle with chives before serving. Serve with a crisp green salad.
