Cheese and onion gratin

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 50 g butter
  • 250 g onion(s), chopped
  • 8 slice(s) bread(s), thin
  • 250 g cheese, grated
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • 150 ml cream
  • 300 ml milk
  • Parsley, for garnishing

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the onions for 5 minutes. Quarter the bread and place half of them in a greased ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the onions and half of the cheese over the bread, then cover with the remaining bread pieces. Beat the eggs, salt, pepper, cream, and milk with a hand mixer and pour over the bread. Let stand for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for 30-40 minutes, until the bread is golden brown. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
