Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 400 g cheese, grated (Appenzeller)
  • 400 g bread(s), stale
  • 2 onions
  • 4 eggs
  • 100 ml cream
  • 100 ml milk
  • 150 g quark, low-fat
  • salt and pepper
  • nutmeg
  • some butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Slice the onions very thinly and break the bread into large pieces. Layer the bread, onions, and cheese alternately in a buttered casserole dish. Whisk the milk, quark, cream, and eggs together, season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and pour over the cheese mixture. Bake in the oven at 200°C for about one hour, until the casserole is brown and crispy.
