Basic Recipe: Caramel

The perfect basic recipe: caramel recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 100 g Sugar

Preparation:

  1. Cover the bottom of a saucepan with sugar and heat on medium heat until the sugar starts to melt.
  2. Then swirl the pot a little to let the sugar melt evenly.
  3. When it turns a slightly golden color, gradually add or stir in the remaining sugar. It is important not to use too much sugar, otherwise the already melted sugar will be too cold and there will be large lumps. So be a little more careful at the beginning.
  4. When everything is dissolved, continue to work while stirring gently until the desired caramel color is achieved.

Attention:

  1. Attention! At this stage, if not cooled, it will burn very quickly. This can be achieved by holding the hot pot in a bowl of cold water for a second or by adding butter / cream or another liquid.
  2. The darker the caramel, the more bitter it tastes.
