Cardamom in coffee has a calming effect

Most people know the flavor of cardamom from Christmas pastries. The spice is also known to many from Indian Ayurvedic cuisine. Coffee with cardamom, on the other hand, is not familiar to many. It is a typical Arabic classic that you should try as well.

  • Cardamom is beneficial in many ways. Brewing Arabic coffee can benefit your health and well-being in many ways.
  • Basically, according to traditional Chinese medicine, cardamom is considered warming and stimulating the circulation. This is especially beneficial in winter when hands and feet are cold.
  • In addition, the essential oils of cardamom seeds appear to soothe the nerves of the gastrointestinal tract. A mocha with the addition of the spice can stimulate your digestion, promotes the flow of bile, can relieve stomach and intestinal cramps and help with flatulence.
  • Tea with cardamom also helps against mild headaches. This is also attributed to Arabic cardamom coffee.
  • Cardamom in coffee is also helpful for bad breath. Even a slight smell of alcohol or the smell of garlic are buffered.

This is what you need for cardamom coffee

You need the following kitchen equipment for Arabic cardamom coffee:

  • a narrow pot with a high rim ( mocha pot )
  • One heaped teaspoon per cup of very finely ground, mildly roasted Arabica coffee – freshly ground is best
  • per cup 1 capsule cardamom or 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Water in the right amount, about 80-90 milliliters per cup
  • for more Arabian ambience: handleless mocha cups.

How to prepare coffee with cardamom

The preparation of the Arabic coffee classic requires a few tricks that make the hot drink a success. The most important thing is a good Arabic coffee. Similar to a Turkish mocha, this is brewed neither with the coffee filter nor by means of a screen printing process. Rather, it is cooked.

  • For four cups of mocha, add 4 heaped teaspoons of fine Arabica powder and a lightly pressed cardamom pod to the pot.
  • Pour in about 375 milliliters of water and heat until it boils and foams.
  • Toss four lightly crushed cardamom pods into the liquid. If you want to season with ground cardamom, this will only be used later.
  • Remove the pot from the plate and allow the coffee base to cool briefly before heating it up again until it boils.
  • Repeat cooling and subsequent heating two more times. Then the aromatic coffee pleasure is ready.
  • Remove the cardamom pods. If you want to spice it up with cardamom powder, now is the time to add it to the cups. Give the hot infusion directly to it.
  • Unlike with Turkish mocha, there should be as little or no coffee grounds in the cup as possible. If you want, you can sweeten the coffee with a little sugar or something similar.

Variants and tips for Arabic spiced coffee

The boiling method is not for everyone, as it sometimes dissolves a lot of bitter substances. If you want more flavor instead, then you can try the following things.

  • First bring the water to the boil, remove the pot from the plate and only now add the coffee powder.
  • Then simmer the coffee-water mixture for a maximum of 3 minutes. It shouldn’t boil anymore.
  • Now you can spice up a very special coffee creation with cardamom powder, cinnamon, cloves, rose water, some nutmeg or saffron threads.
  • Arabic coffee should be served hot and enjoyed immediately after preparation.
