Peeling turmeric is a lot easier than you might imagine when you are standing in front of the exotic-looking root. There is very little to consider when peeling turmeric, and with the right tool, you can get started right away.
Peel turmeric – that’s how it works quickly
Turmeric is a root. Before peeling, think about how much you will use. Then break off or cut off an appropriately sized bulb. This procedure has the advantage that the interfaces remain relatively small.

- A small sharp knife is enough to peel the turmeric. If you are one of those kitchen professionals who end up with more in the bin than on the plate, and asparagus cutter or a potato knife is a good choice.
- As a rule, the peel of the turmeric can be peeled off very easily as soon as you run the knife over it very lightly.
- There are some nutrients and bitter substances in or directly under the peel of turmeric. While these are usually good for our health, they taste just like the name suggests. However, bitter substances help against cravings.
Turmeric – you can use the spice for that
The effect of turmeric on the body is triggered by the curcumin it contains. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive effects. Therefore, there are a few uses for the root that is good for your body:
- Turmeric is often combined with healthy ginger tea. In order for the organism to better utilize the poorly water-soluble turmeric, add some black pepper and a little oil. Incidentally, this also applies if you mix turmeric water.
- An alternative to turmeric water is the delicious turmeric shot, which you can easily create yourself.
- With the homemade golden turmeric paste, you can give your dishes an exotic touch. The golden turmeric paste is a must, especially if you are preparing Indian or Asian dishes.
- By the way: A pinch of turmeric spice usually goes well with pumpkin dishes, such as pumpkin soup.
