Facts about compressed water

Compressed water has a higher density. But you can’t drink it without further ado:

  • Water is the cheapest food. Water is rarely expensive.
  • Like most liquids, and unlike gases, water is difficult to compress. That’s why there’s brake fluid in your car, and you need to bleed the brake line if air got in.
  • The water reaches its maximum density at around 3 degrees Celsius. You can’t drink it more compressed.
  • External pressure practically does not increase the density. Instead, water seeks a way out or persistently pushes against it. How the hydraulics work.
  • Due to its own weight, however, the bottom layer of water is always the densest. So you could decant compressed water from the ocean floor by enclosing it in a vessel that can withstand great pressure.
  • However, you cannot drink this compressed water, because as soon as you open the container, the density decreases again. So the water shoots out. You would have to drink the water on the spot.
  • With a soda stream you are not creating compressed water. Its tank contains compressed carbon dioxide, which escapes when you press the button and mixes with the water in decompressed form, i.e. it produces carbonic acid.
