Strawberries only keep for two to three days and should therefore be used quickly. That way you can enjoy the seasonal fruit a little longer. Jam is the easiest way to do this.
Use strawberries: cook jam
Cooking jam is the simplest and most effective way to use strawberries. For this, you need strawberries and preserving sugar in a ratio of 3:1.
- Wash the strawberries. Remove the stalk and place the fruit in a saucepan.
- Add the sugar. Let the berries steep for 60 minutes to allow the juice to escape.
- Rinse the jam jars thoroughly with boiling water.
- Bring the berries to a boil. Cook these on low heat. Stir it every now and then so that it doesn’t splatter or burn.
- Skim off the foam with a slotted spoon.
- As soon as the liquid has evaporated and the mass has become slightly viscous, remove the pot from the heat. Divide the jam among the jars.
- Close the jars and let them cool down.

If there aren’t enough strawberries left for jam, a simple strawberry pudding cake is a great way to use up the fruit.
- Cook a packet of custard. Let this cooldown.
- Meanwhile, wash and hull the strawberries. Cut them in halves or slices.
- Spread the pudding on a cake base. Lay out the strawberries on top of the pudding.
- Cook icing. Spread this on the fruit. Allow the frosting to set.
