If you have bought or collected too many mushrooms, you can also freeze them without any problems. We explain to you how best to do this.
Freeze mushrooms – preferably like this
- Before you freeze the mushrooms, you should clean them thoroughly. Especially freshly collected mushrooms are often still soiled with sand and earth.
- In no case should you wash the mushrooms with ordinary water? Instead, it is best to use a small knife and a kitchen towel. A small brush is also perfect.
- Rub the mushrooms clean with the kitchen towel or brush. Use a small knife to remove damaged areas and the ends of the mushrooms.
- An insider tip: If you don’t want to do without water, put a bowl and add plenty of flour. In this way, the mushrooms hardly absorb any water when they are cleaned in the flour water and thus do not lose much of their aroma.
- You can cut the mushrooms at this point or leave them whole, depending on what you plan to do with the mushrooms once they have been thawed.
- Then fill the mushrooms loosely in commercially available freezer bags. In no case do not squeeze the mushrooms in a bag. The mushrooms should not stick to each other.
- After freezing, you do not have to thaw the mushrooms first. You can process the mushrooms in the frozen state directly in the saucepan.
