Refine kale with five tricks
You should refine kale so that it tastes really good. Whether frozen kale or kale from the jar – we will show you how you can refine ready-made kale with the right ingredients and tricks.
- Tip 1: Traditionally, kale is served with meat, such as Kassler or Knackwurst. So that the kale doesn’t taste too bland next to the meat, you can season it with onions fried in lard, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. If you like, you can season the kale with a little mustard and sugar (or honey) at the end.
- Tip 2: If you don’t want a large meat side dish, you can add fried bacon cubes to the finished kale. It is best to use lard for frying, as the taste goes very well with the kale. Finally, you can season the winter vegetables with allspice and caraway.
- Tip 3: The ready-made kale becomes exotic with spring onions, chili, ginger, and garlic. The ingredients are seared in a wok or large pan with coconut oil. Mix in the kale and add some soy sauce. Season with 125 milliliters of vegetable stock and sugar and simmer well. This goes well with rice.
- Tip 4: If you like it hearty and still vegetarian, cheese goes well with kale. Refine the winter vegetables with Gorgonzola or Roquefort and cook everything until a creamy mass is formed. Sweet pear wedges or cranberry compote are delicious with it.
- Tip 5: There is an unusual taste experience with this sweet and sour variant. Fry the finished kale with vinegar. Add raisins, cloves, and a bay leaf. If it’s too sour for you, you can sweeten it with a little sugar. You can also replace the sugar with honey.
Important: kale is rich in vitamin C. To ensure that this is not lost during cooking, you should only blanch or steam the kale. This is especially true if you are preparing the kale fresh.
